Written by Anonymous NOT ME

>It's chilly outside with morning twilight arriving soon.
>The house is sparingly lit and nearly silent, save for a lone, occupied man.
>Anon, wearing only his crystal heart patterned boxers, is in the kitchen cooking up an omelette meal.
>Hearing the front door unlocking, he quickly removes his pinkie finger from his nostrils.
>The door opens and closes.
>Anon hears metallic shuffling noises coming from the front entrance.
>Eventually, they stop and are replaced by the sound of hoofsteps, increasingly coming to the kitchen.
>"Smells nice." the new arrival announces as she enters the room.
>A nocturne mare is now standing near the archway.
"Wish you ponies had Apple Jacks around here. So the Chief let you off?" he asks.
>"Yep. Old Nightstick told me I enjoy my vacation early; make sure my husband's safe and not lonely." she eyes him curiously.
>Not too much happens in the small town of Hoofton. Still, Nightwatch mares have to keep vigilant, protect their homes and their herds.
>The mare heads for the table and takes a seat, shoulders sagging and head leaning back.
>She sighs.
"So, slow night again?" Anon asks.
>"This whole damn month has been uneventful. Aside from that incident a few weeks ago." she replies.
"That young, tipsy stallion wandering the streets?" he inquires.
>"Mhm. Why are males so careless? Don't they have the sense to not leave parties so late at night all alone?" she questions him.
>Anon begins. "Oh, come on, Indigo. I get the world isn't all rainbows and sunshine..."
>Indigo looks to her side mournfully.
>'Yeah.' she thinks.
"...but you know that not all us boys are little, delicate flowers." he finishes.
>Anon puts on a show of flexing for his other half, earning a grin from her.
>"What do you think might've happened to that dumb colt if I hadn't escorted him home?" Indigo counters.
"I'm referring to Dagger actually, he's a cool guy. He's the bro I wish I had before I came to Equestria." he replies.
>Indigo dreads. "I don't like to imagine where Dagger would be if Cloak wasn't there to watch out for his dumb ass."
"I think you're too hard on him." Anon defends.
>"You know I still love them both - always will." Indigo clarifies. "He was just always so mischievous with me when we were all growing up; sometimes even Cloak enabled him."
"He's not that bad to me. He really makes me feel like a brother. Dagger knows how to be serious when it's necessary. At least that's what Cloak's told me." Anon says.
>"Mhm. Dagger's more mature and his shenanigans are a rarity now. He also isn't anything comparable to that aimless drunk I was talking about." Indigo says.
"Well, you never know, Indigo. Roaming around at night? A lost male just might run into his soulmate." he tells her.
>Anon gives his wife a wry smile.
>She looks at him unimpressed.
>"Maybe. Or maybe he'll run into a sex-predator." Indigo points out.
>Anon rolls his eyes and grabs the plate to serve her.
"Okay, I mean, I guess I sort of did." he concedes under his breath.
>Indigo grows a slight smirk at that.
>Having a keen sense of hearing is one the perks of being a nocturne.
>Anon sets down the plate in front of Indigo and goes for the refrigerator to fetch the mango juice.
>Indigo breathes in the wafting aroma with pleasure.
>Anon also prepared a side of bacon for her.
>Another perk of being a nocturne: you get to eat mouth-watering, delicious meat.
>Most ponies are vegetarians.
>Indigo would feel sorry for them, but this only means more for the few like her.
>That is, when Anon is generous enough to save some for her.
>"How's your night been, love?" Indigo asks before digging in.
>Anon returns, juice and glass in hand.
>He sets the glass down and pours the sweet liquid.
"So, I wanted to scrap my old work and start on a new canvas, but things didn't exactly go according to plan." Anon meekly admits.
>He goes on. "I went in my art room to light up the lamps, but I just happened to slip on a paintbrush I accidentally misplaced from my last painting session. Gravity led me toward the new paint cans; apparently I also didn't remember to replace the lids."
>Indigo stops chewing and gives her husband a deadpan look.
"Sooo, green and purple got spilled all over the floor and I slipped in it too. My pajamas got plastered." he quickly adds.
"I trashed my PJs - since they were beyond salvation - and I spent some hours cleaning up the mess as best as possible, but you can still see a little bit of the Anon print I left behind."
"After all that crap was behind me, I decided 'fuck it' I'm gonna spend the rest of what time I've got left relaxing in the tub."
"Then after I finished my me-time, I started making you dinner, and now here we are." he ends.
>Indigo swallows and slowly places a hoof on her forehead.
>"Careless... Luna's sake, Anon." she says tiredly.
>"Was wondering why you're naked." Indigo mumbles.
>Anon attempts to redeem himself. "Diiid I tell you I got commissioned for a mural at the public library?"
>He is met with no reply.
>Anon grins at her, then reaches out to scritch Indigo behind her fuzzy ear.
>Initially, she tries to shy away, but Indigo surrenders to the heavenly sensation, like always.
>This elicits incredibly adorable bat-like squee noises from his lover.
>It's a good thing nopony from the guard station is around to see Indigo in this state.
>Anon runs his other hand through Indigo's mane, down to her withered wing; her healthy wing flutters briefly, feeling bashful by the touch.
>Anon lowers in to meet Indigo's lips with his own.
>They stay like this for a moment, then Anon breaks the kiss and the two nestle their heads on each other's shoulders.
>Anon speaks up. "What do you want to do on your time off?"
>"I wanna go out, with you." Indigo answers. "We haven't gone in a while."
"Out? Hiking?" he asks.
>"Mhm." she hums. "Maybe camping, it's been too long."
"Alright." Anon then pulls away.
"I'll go put away your armor." he tells her, then leaves for the front entrance.
>Indigo simply smiles as she stares at him go.
"Meet me in bed when you're done!" he calls out.

Author's really long note that you don't have to read: (warning has easter egg spoiler in it)
This is a revised version of a greentext that I wrote back in March of last year (March of 2019). I wanted to see if I could improve upon it, because the OG felt lacking to me. I had planned on publishing it on Fimfiction, but it got rejected, because it wasn't considered to be related to the MLP:FIM universe. I wanted to see if I could improve on writing so I can
possible make other stories in the future.
The green I originally wrote is shorter than the final product. I had to add more to meet the minimum word count requirement. It has been changed from the original, however at its core, it's still very similar there is one cancelled version and another idea I decided not to bother writing.
I'd like to clarify that I took the term "nocturne" from one of Dropbear's fics, I read a long time ago. I'm pretty sure I didn't subconsciously take the name "Indigo" from any of his stories - although it has been a while. I just wanted to think of a name quickly on the spot at the time and that's what came to mind.
In the cancelled version, Anon and Indigo were talking about pregnancy and having a family. I started delving into why they would have a few issues, and I felt it was putting a read damper on the comfy mood of the fic; which is what I aimed for in the original and I wanted to retain in it. It was getting a little too serious in my opinion, which left me dissatisfied with it. Also, I felt I'm not experienced enough to write about two characters discussing something like that.
The other idea I didn't go with was using an AU where Nightmare Moon had taken over Equestria upon her return as a background. This may sound stupid, unnecessary, and out-of-place for something like this, but I had a problem: Indigo's presence is unusual. I didn't just take "nocturne" from DB, I also borrowed the rules he made in his story. It's been forever since I read it, so it may not be completely accurate. The gist of it is: for them day is night and night is day. In that particular fic, nocturnes have their own (underground?) city.
In FIM the show itself, I don't recall bat ponies ever being around except for the episode Luna Eclipsed. Bat ponies are also absent from IDW comics, I think. It's clear that they are rare denizens of Equestria. I wanted a better reason for Indigo to be living in a small town that to imply she's a unique pony that just happens to be there. Indigo is handicapped. This was not in the original.
My thought are that Indigo was previously a guard in the bat pony city before her wing was crippled. She suffered a severe injury that rendered her flightless. Whether she got injured during the line of duty, or unrelated to her occupation, I haven't decided - so it's up to the reader. Indigo was no longer wanted as a guard in the city, due to her being at a big disadvantage to pursue other ponies that can fly. Indigo didn't want to give up being a guard, so she
found work outside the city, in a small town. Indigo's experience and natural night vision made her an excellent asset to the town's night guard.
Indigo being handicapped is also partly why she and Anon are together. In nature, animals select strong and healthy mates. Indigo's disability made her unattractive to other ponies in the city after her injury. She had difficulty
finding a herd that would take her. In the small town, some ponies think she's kind of weird, since her kind are rarely seen. One day, Anon showed up in her life. He is not very accustomed to the concept of herding, and would prefer to
stick with monogomy.
Siblings. Indigo’s sister and brother, Cloak & Dagger. These two were not in the original green. They are twins, and they are older than Indigo - not by a whole lot. I want to envision Cloak & Dagger as spies, or something
similar to that. Cloak and Dagger‘s names were chosen from a group of OC names I made up a while back. Although, with how long MLP fanfiction has been around, I'm probably not the first to come up with these names. Indigo Silhouette is
her full name, by the way.
Easter eggs. If you would even call them that. As a random addition, I wanted to see if I could weave in the names of the Mane 6 into the fic; in the order that Twilight first met her friends. Another thing: after I finished
revising, I noticed the ratio of Anon & Indigo's names being used were 24/12. I decided to edit it so it was 23 evenly. Why? As a reference to this line from the fic: “Anon puts on a show of flexing for his other half". It's also sort of
a reference to the cancelled version about them having foals - 23 chromosomes. I know, that one is kind of a stretch. Also, horses don't have the same number as humans.
I feel my biggest misgiving I have about my fic is that I didn't characterize Indigo well enough. Her siblings, her condition, her implied outdoorsmare nature - none of that was in the original green. I thinks it's better than
before, but still, it kind of bothers me.
I hope this extra info (if anyone actually read this) was satisfying for you. Thanks for reading.
